Full Itinerary

DAY 1: Trek to Piedra del Fraile and Pollone Glacier

El Chalten – Refugio Piedra del Fraile

In the morning, you will take a transfer to the trailhead at Rio Electrico. The trailhead is about 30 minutes away from El Chalten. You will being the trek by walking along Electrico Valley, through an enchanting lenga forest, for approximately 2 hours. You will arrive at Piedra del Fraile, which will be your home for the night. Following a short break as well as lunch, you will continue walking along the valley towards Pollone Glacier. The trek here is against the prevailing winds from the region’s famous Continental Ice Field. You will be able to appreciate raw nature at its best – pure rock and ice! You will also be able to admire the northern face of Monte Fitz Roy, which is a unique vantage point of the famous towering structure! Afterwards, you will enjoy a short break at one of the park’s hidden lagoons. The rest of the evening will be spent enjoying a hot meal and well-deserved rest.

DAY 2: Trek to Laguna de Los Tres

Refugio Piedra del Fraile – Camping Poincenot

Following an energizing breakfast, you will depart toward Piedras Blancas Glacier and Piedras Blancas River. Here, you will cross the river by hopping over some large boulders. Afterwards, you will arrive at the camping area nearby Rio Blanco. The path to Laguna de Los Tres starts at this point! The climb to Laguna de Los Tres is going to be challenging! You will trek for 1 hour up a very steep hill, however, the effort is made worthwhile due to the breathtaking views of Monte Fitz Roy at the top. As long as the weather is agreeable, you will have lunch at the lagoon at the top of the climb. Afterwards, you will begin a descent along the same trail heading towards your home for the night, which is a forested campsite called Camping Poincenot.

DAY 3: Trek to Laguna Torre

Camping Poincenot – Laguna Torre – El Chalten

If you wake up early enough, you may be able to catch some stunning sunrise views of Monte Fitz Roy directly from the campsite. It may be a worthwhile and awe-inspiring moment that you will not forget! Following a delicious breakfast, you will continue trekking through beautiful lenga forests all the while bypassing a few lagoons – Madre, Hija, and Nieta. The trail is relatively flat, which will be a welcome break after yesterday’s climb. After a couple of hours, you will drop into the glacial valley en route to Laguna Torre. Laguna Torre is a valley famed by geologists and photographers for its perfect “U” shape. At the end of the valley, you will approach Laguna Torre, its glacier, and the famous Monte Torre. The latter is considered by many to be one of the most difficult mountains in the world to climb! Following a scenic lunch at the lagoon, you will return to El Chalten via the valley of Fitz Roy River.
