First, you can reach this pristine park by taking a scenic 40-minute flight from Puerto Montt. Consequently, your adventure begins the moment you lift off the runway.

    On this journey of discovery and adventure in Pumalín, you will explore the wilderness alongside our experienced guides. Specifically, our team leads several daily walks through some of the most important trails in the park. This guided support allows you to safely immerse yourself in nature and witness the incredible life of the temperate rainforest.

    First, our team will pick you up directly from your hotel in Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, or the El Tepual International Airport (PMC). We will transfer you comfortably to the Marcel Marchant Aerodrome (SCPF) in downtown Puerto Montt. From here, you will board a spectacular 40-minute scenic flight to the Chaitén Aerodrome (SCTN).

    Consequently, your driver will greet you upon landing. Next, you will enjoy a beautiful 60-kilometer drive along the northern Carretera Austral to reach Lodge Caleta Gonzalo. This 90-minute road trip offers numerous perfect opportunities for landscape photography.

    After settling into your cozy private cabin, we will welcome you with a fresh, replenishing lunch. Afterward, you will head out for an afternoon hike on one of the stunning trails near the property.

    For example, you can trek the popular Cascadas Trail to see roaring waterfalls. Alternatively, you can explore the eastern side of the lodge to visit our organic garden, walk the beach, and discover the hidden pools of the Gonzalo River.

    Later in the evening, our expert guide will host an informative briefing for all guests. During this time, you will learn all the details regarding the exciting activities planned for the next day.

    Finally, you will enjoy a delicious dinner at our restaurant before heading back to your cabin for a well-deserved night of deep rest.

    Our day of hiking starts early in the morning (07:30 hrs) with an exquisite breakfast in the restaurant and the delivery of a box-lunch for the excursion that you will carry in your backpack. Our van will leave at 9:00 a.m. from the Lodge to take you to the starting point of each trail that we will hike. The selection of trails for the day will depend on factors such as the weather, the interests and abilities of the guests and it will be your guide who will finally define the destination. The preferred trails are usually Cascadas – next to the Lodge-, Cascadas Escondidas, Alerces, Tronador, Interpretativo Volcán, Michinmahuida and, of course, Volcán Chaitén.

    Departure Day

    The day of your departure we will leave at 09:00 a.m. -after breakfast- to the Chaitén aerodrome in order to connect with the flight that leaves in the morning to Puerto Montt. You will arrive in Puerto Montt in the middle of the afternoon and we will transfer you to the place you request in Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas or El Tepual airport if you continue with a flight that same afternoon.
